Ron Wiertel succumbed to cancer on July 12, 1999.
A past Commodore (1998) of the Top of the Bay Cruising Association, Ron had worked his way through all the chairs at TOBCA. He also was a member of the Bush River Yacht Club and the Chesapeake Commodores Club.
Ron was one of our most active cruisers. It would be a rare occasion not to see him and his wife Jane (currently TOBCA treasurer) on a water function.
No one would dispute that Ron was the ambassador for TOBCA. He and Jane attended many of the yachting functions all over the bay, thereby becoming very popular with numerous yacht clubs. Although a great deal of Ron's leadership skills have been adopted by many of our current officers, his shoes will be hard to fill.
Ron will be remembered as a man who enjoyed life, loved his fellow man, was a good husband and father. He will be deeply missed by all.
