CRUISING ASSOCIATION

North East, Maryland

DOCKLINE - July 1999

FROM THE VICE COMMODORE:

I just can't begin to tell you how delighted I am with our organization!

Thus far this season, the support from our members has been wonderful! We have had fantastic turnouts for the land events and the cruises. At the openings, you have helped the club win three (3) award plaques this season.

I'm also very proud of your interaction with members from other clubs. You are helping make us a very popular club.

Our Fleet Captain saw to it that we rendezvoused with the Sassafras Yacht Club for a mega-cocktail party at Great Oak Landing. While there we also met the newly formed Bohemia Yacht Club.

Pat has done everything she could, to make our cruises pleasant, interesting and enjoyable. I thank you all for the support you have given her.

It's hard to believe but we are only four months away from elections for our next year's officers. A nominating committee will soon be formed to canvas our membership as to who will lead us into the 21st century. Give some thought as to how you can serve your club.

FYI - There are some positions that have been unfilled for sometime, Fleet Chaplain and Fleet Surgeon.

Anyone with an interest who possesses the proper credentials or calling is encouraged to step forward.

TOBCA CLASSIFIED: Mike Handzo has a drop-in air conditioner for sale.

SUNSHINE REPORT: Pat's recovered from surgery and Ron is home resting comfortably.

MEMBERSHIP CHAIRMAN: We have several new applications to vote on.

HIGH TIDINGS FROM YOUR FLEET CAPTAIN:

Since last news letter, we went to Bush River Yacht Club Opening, and it was fantastic!

We had nine boats, which did not take a prize, but was a major improvement over the three boats we brought the year before. Everyone had a great time. The only mar we had on the weekend was that Ron and Jane Wiertel, who are also members of BRYC were not there to enjoy it because of Ron's trip to the hospital.

TOBCA was there in force to make Ron proud, and I hope we did. It was one terrific weekend and the weather was great. If you weren't there, check out our web site to see the bridge opening pictures. The weekend itself was good food, music, and good people. I'm glad that we were there to enjoy it.

The weekend after BRYC opening, we had a raft-up at Fairlee Creek, and it was the most successful raft-out that TOBCA has had since I've been a member. We had nine boats!

We had a cocktail party and pot luck dinner Friday night and a cocktail party with Sassafras Yacht Club Saturday night and then a dinner at Great Oaks Landing Restaurant. Sunday it rained a little, but the seas were calm, and it was smooth sailing.

By the time you are reading this, I will be on the vacation cruise with many of our members. I am sorry if you are not with us ... but maybe next year?

The next event on our agenda is the North East Water Festival. There will be a raft-up at McDaniel's Cove. LET US KNOW IF YOU ARE COMING and whether by land or by sea. Also let us know whether you will be attending our dinner Saturday night and what side dish you are bringing. (Dave and I are BBQ'ing and providing the meat and the beer.)

I would also like to know who is coming to the raft-up at Still Pond on July 24, but REALLY NEED TO KNOW WHO IS JOINING US FOR THUNDER ON THE NARROWS AUG 6 &7. E-mail or call.

Please look at the remaining cruise schedule and let me know what you want to attend.

*** There is a schedule change. September 25, Chesapeake City has been changed to Chestnut Point raft-up to attend Jack and Candy's wedding reception. Jack and Candy want a quiet wedding, but have graciously invited us all to a celebration at their bay home. Details will follow.

I am moving the Chesapeake City cruise from September 25 back to an open date of September 18.

Please let me hear from you and sign up for your choice of cruises. Meanwhile I will be happy vacationing on the DC cruise! I'll tell you all about it next month.

Your Fleet Captain,

Pat
