CRUISING ASSOCIATION

North East, Maryland

DOCKLINE - February 1999

FROM THE COMMODORE:

The Vice Commodore is busy planning land cruises - the Fleet Captain is busy planning our summer cruises - and we are all busy planning our Commodore's Ball scheduled for March 6th. We are planning a big celebration this year in honor of our 10th Anniversary. I sincerely hope you will be able to attend. We always have a great time!

We will be asking all members who attend to bring an hors d'oeuvre for the hospitality room. If you plan to come to the Ball but are unable to make the meeting on the 28th, please let Candy know what you plan to bring.

Our next monthly meeting will be held on Sunday, February 28th, at the North East VFW at 3:30 PM. (The By-Law Committee will meet at 2:00 PM.)

Hope to see you there....

FROM THE VICE COMMODORE:

January took us not only to the New York boat show, but to the Three C's Ball in Ocean City Maryland. This was my first time there and I'd have to say this is the "Mother of all Parties" or balls!

Oh! Did we sneak over to the Atlantic City boat show? Yes, Gary Kunas escorted us through, what I think may be the up and coming largest indoor boat show anywhere! Worth a look if you have never been there.

The response to our return to Suicide Bridge is more than I expected. Currently we have seven couples signed up. We will be meeting at the New Comfort Inn on Rt. 50, Easton, Maryland, Saturday, February 27 after 1:00 PM. All those wanting to stay the night, should phone the Inn for reservations at 410-820-8333. Our rate is $62.00 (AAA or AARP). Saturday's itinerary will include the shops in Easton, a cocktail party hosted by Betty and Nolan Todd, and dinner at the famous Suicide Bridge Restaurant. Sunday - brunch and then head back to North East Md. for our regular monthly meeting. If I do not have you included in the couples signed up, please let me know that you are coming.

At our January meeting, it was decided that we have a membership contest. All paid up members are eligible to win the $100 gift certificate, by sponsoring the most new paid members between now and Labor Day weekend. Jane Wiertel will be the official score keeper, and will from time to time give us a running report. There are no losers, as our club grows we will all win! Good luck!

We've also implemented a mentor's list, for the busy member that just doesn't have time to read the Dockline. You'll be contacted by a fellow member, reminding you about meetings and up coming events.

Please fill in your membership renewal form whether you've been a member for ten years or are already paid up for 1999. There is new information requested, and we would like our roster to be as complete as possible.

HIGH TIDINGS FROM YOUR FLEET CAPTAIN:

Vacation Cruise July 1999

Here's where we are to date. We know we will start our cruise on Thursday, July 1. We intend on meeting up with the fleet on that afternoon. If you need a "buddy" or someone to run with, we'll make every attempt to oblige. Because we are coming from marinas all over the bay, this makes for a better rendezvous point.

We are considering the first stop to be in Solomon's Island, rather than Herring Bay as was originally planned. From there, we head to Colonial Beach, Virginia, where we will spend Friday night.

From Colonial Beach we cruise into DC on Saturday, July 3. We will be fine tuning this event as we get closer and know exactly who is going. As it stands right now, we plan to leave DC on Wednesday morning. This gives us four days to sight see the Potomac and get back to home port on Sunday. Your comments and suggestions are more than welcome. Nothing is written in stone.

It has been decided that we attend the Baltimore Yacht Club opening (on the Middle River) as a fleet this Memorial Day Weekend. I am taking sign-ups for that weekend now.

All dates of events are not published yet so it is a little too soon to put out a whole season's cruises.

Once again I am appealing to the membership to make some choices about what you are planning to do and where you would like to see the club cruise. We do plan to have several raft ups this season.
