CRUISING ASSOCIATION

North East, Maryland

DOCKLINE - January 1999

FROM THE COMMODORE:

Well, here it is, 1999 - Happy New Year to everyone! It wont be long before the season starts and well be getting the boats ready to splash - 91 days and counting. We started the year off with a great Land Cruise, thanks to Dave Harris, to the New York Boat Show. Over 30 people joined us for the bus ride - a pretty good showing considering the weather.

After a break during the holidays Carolyn and I are ready to hit the Ball circuit again, with Bush River on the 16th and Belvedere on the 23rd of January.

Our next meeting will be on January 24th at 3:30 PM at the North East VFW. The Board of Directors will meet at 3:00 PM. Well spend most of the membership meeting working on the TOBCA Commodores Ball scheduled for March 6th, at the Ramada Inn in New Castle, Delaware. All members will receive more information early in February.

If you have any ideas that you would like to see take place or do as a group, please call and we will try to make it happen.

See you at the meeting....

FROM THE VICE COMMODORE:

New Year, new officers, and new ideas!

The bus trip to the New York Boat Show couldn't have been any better! We had folks from the North East Yacht Club, Outcast Yacht Club and the Kingsway Power Squadron in attendance. Thank you all for making this a huge success.

While Im giving out thanks, did it ever occur to you the time and patience it takes to put this newsletter together and get it to your doorstep? The phone calls reminding the eight different officers that their reports are overdue, trying to read what some of us pass off as "penmanship", and putting together a great product while running your daily routine and career? Thats what someone does every month for us. You dont see her name anywhere in this letter. She doesn't make a big deal of it, but a big hats off to Candy Thompson!!!

Another land Cruise is coming up February 27. TOBCA is returning to Suicide Bridge! We will have overnight arrangements for those interested. Contact me for details.

If there is an outing or special event you would like to share with the club, please let us know, well do our best to put something together. Our club can only be as good as its members make it!

HIGH TIDINGS FROM YOUR FLEET CAPTAIN:

As we are looking forward to a summer of cruising, the most important thing that we have to do is make the commitment for the Washington, DC dockage. We are planning on starting the vacation cruise on Thursday, July 1, staying around Herrington Harbor on Thursday night, cruising up the Potomac about 40 miles and staying on the Virginia side Friday night, and cruising into Gangplank Marina Saturday afternoon, July 3. That way we will be comfortably in place for the wonderful fireworks in our nations capitol Sunday, July 4.

Ive extended the reservations to leave Washington, DC on Wednesday morning, July 7, and then we will head for some of those neat places along the Potomac River that we dont normally get to see, including the beautiful Tobacco River. Well work our way along the Potomac and then thru the Bay to bring us back home on Sunday, July 11. Gangplank Marina has reservations for us but they need details. Please call me or e-mail me with your reservation and boat details (length, beam, draft, electric requirements).

Next months newsletter should have the complete vacation cruise schedule as well as at least a tentative schedule for the entire summer. Call me with ideas and requests, but most important, call me with your reservations for Washington, DC!

CAPTAIN DAVES SUNSHINE REPORT:

October was a hard month on our membership. The Lord took John Crowe from us, after a year~s battle with lung cancer. Speaking for the entire membership, I would like to extend this late offering of our deepest sympathy to his beloved wife Dot.

Also in October, one of our newest members, Holly Kirk, experienced a life threatening injury when her horse fell on her. Through the grace of God, she is recovering from a broken neck, is in physical therapy and awaiting knee surgery in the near future. Her rebound is one for the record books, no doubt. Her faith and good spirits prove to be rewarding!

Another member has a lot to be thankful for. Art Young is recovering from a recent heart attack. Art is resting at home with his private nurse, Cindy, by his side. He should be back in shape for cruising this season.

Finally, this past December, Sue Defelices mother passed away. Our heartfelt sympathy to Sue and her family.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

January14 - J.C. Christiano
January 22- Carolyn Herbert
January 26- Candy Thompson
January 30- Erni Heiser

Reminder: Monthly member meetings are held on the 4th Sunday of each month at the North East, Maryland VFW. Changes will be published in the Dockline.
