TOP OF THE BAY

CRUISING ASSOCIATION

North East, Maryland

DOCKLINE - November 2001

COMMODORE'S REPORT:

I first would like to thank everyone that voted for me. I'll do my best to make Top Of The Bay proud of me as Commodore.

Don and I, Yo Hales, and Pat & Dave Harris have attended Crescent Shrine Yacht Club Ball. Don & I attended Maryland Cruising Club Ball. Jerry and Judy Cook attended The Sassafras River YC Ball. Jane Wiertel attended The Baltimore YC Ball. They are a lot of fun and you get to meet more people on the bay. There is a least one every week-end if you would like to attend let someone know.

Mark your calendars March 2, 2002 is our Ball. It will be held at The Aberdeen Holiday Inn. The Legends will be our entertainment.

Its time to renew your Boat US card. The cost is $9.50 (half price). TOBCA's discount code is GA82488B.

Because of Thanksgiving Holiday we are making our next meeting Dec 2 at 3:30 at the Nauti-Goose Saloon 200 Cherry St. North East, MD. We will try to keep it short because afterwards we will have the prime rib & seafood buffet, but you could order off regular menu. There will be separate checks. The buffet includes: snow crab legs, seafood Newburg, 2 fish of the day, clams casino, oyster Rockefeller, fried shrimp, deviled crab, seafood imperial, clam strips, calamari, seafood and pasta specials, steamed clams, raw bar, salad bar, crab soup and seafood salad.

We are also going to have a gift exchange of no more than $5.00 (or something that was giving to you and you want to get rid of nice or other). So try to make the next meeting if you can even if you can only make dinner & gift exchange or just want to watch it will be FUN Please call me or Jerry Cook or email me at Vera@tobca.org.

Sincerely,

Commodore Vera Gortowski

The Chinese Gift Exchange

Here is how our gift exchange will work.

  1. To determine the order of play, have each person draw a number.
  2. The person drawing number one selects and opens a gift.
  3. Player 2 either chooses another unopened gift or takes the gift from player 1, who then select another unopened gift.
  4. Player 3 then either selects a new unopened gift or chooses from the two unopened gifts and so on.
  5. As players gifts are taken, they re-enter the game and have the option of selecting an unopened gift or taking already opened gifts from other players.
  6. Players cannot immediately reclaim a gift that has just been lost, they must wait until another turn
  7. A player may select the same gift twice.
  8. The game ends when the last person selects the final unopened gift.

VICE COMMODORE'S REPORT:

I would like to thank everyone who voted for me. I will do my best as Vice Commodore for the club and its members.

Judi and I represented the club at the Sassafras Yacht Club Ball in October. We met some very nice people and had a good time. We will be attending Georgetown's Ball on November 17th.

Start collecting items for the silent auction. Judi and I will be handling it again this year. You can bring items to the meetings.

It is not too soon to be thinking about place to go for ads for our directory. Thank you again.

Thank you again.

REAR COMMODORE'S REPORT:

Our weekends have taken a dramatic change since boating season ended. But there are still plenty of boating related activity. Such as boat shows, balls, meetings and last but not least winterizing our boats or should that be first?

Vera and I wish all of you a Happy Thanksgiving.

I hope to see all of you at our Christmas Party December 2, and following our meeting at the Nauti Goose Saloon.

FLEET CAPTAIN'S REPORT:

Thank you very much for electing me as your Fleet Captain. I hope I can live up to the fine job that Don did this year.

Don't forget about the NY Boat Show on January 12th. Check out the story elsewhere in the newsletter for more information.

A few people have expressed interest in going to Miami for the boat show on February 14th- 19th. I have done some preliminary research and it would cost approx. 160.00 PP for air from Philadelphia, $18.00 PP for a two day pass and we can get a group rate for hotels at approx. $100-150 a night. Please let me know ASAP if you are interested. Before I do any more work on it.

I will be sending out a questionnaire in next month's newsletter and meeting about where you would like to go next year. Some people have mentioned about making the 4th of July a long weekend and having the 10 day vacation cruise possibly in the end of July or the beginning of August. I am also looking for New ideas of places to go. Please e mail me with any ideas you may have.
