DOCKLINE - September 2001

FROM THE COMMODORE:

It is difficult to write a normal report with everything that has happened recently with the United States being attacked. Our heartfelt sympathy goes out to the families of the victims. Our prayers are for the ones who lost their lives and for our country's leaders, may they know the right road to follow.

President Bush told us to carry on our lives as normally as possible all the time with hightened awareness. I will try to carry on normally.

It has been a great summer ending with a wonderful long week-end at Todd's lot. Everyone pitched in and helped make the weekend the huge success that it was. Betty asked me to thank Erni Heiser and Nancy Fitzgerald for cleaning up the shanty and getting ready for the party. She also wanted me to thank the guys that helped Nolan set up the tables and canapies and got the marina ready. I believe that was Don Heiser, Charlie Fitzgerald and Bobby Faulkner.

I'd like to thank Candy and Erni for organizing the food and the cleanup. I'd like to thank Bobby Faulkner for providing the beer and for the wonderful surprise of ice cream that was brought to the party by his son, Robbie.

I would most of all like to thank Nolan and Betty and Unk for allowing us to share their wonderful location with us for the "best party on the bay".

Brian Toner brought the sound equipment and ran the "survivor" games. Thank you Brian, and hats off to all the participants of the games. They were all good sports.

The winner of the games for those that were not there, was Leon McFalls.

If I missed someone in my thanks, I say to you, thank you. The party was such a success because of the help of many.

Now that Labor Day is behind us we are looking forward to the frostbite cruise and then the Annapolis Boat Show. After that we have the October meeting on Sunday, October 28 at 3:30 at the VFW. This is important because it is election time and we will be having a new bridge.

Along with October and new bridge we have the start of the "ball" season. If you don't understand what this "ball season" is all about, contact one of the senior bridge officers and ask them to discribe how much fun it is and what it's all about. Meanwhile, make sure you mark your calendar for March 2, 2002 which is TOBCA's Ball.

Please attend the meetings so you are aware of what all is happening and join in the fun. As my Captain Dave would say, "Let's see your face in the place!"

FROM THE VICE COMMODORE:

We had a great Labor Day Weekend - couldn't ask for better weather or seas. Brian did an excellent job on the survivor show. Erni kept bringing out great decorating surprises for the Gilligan's Island theme. Everyone did a great job on decorating their boat and/or themselves. Mr. & Mrs. Howell , Ginger, Maryanne, The Professor, Skipper, and Gilligan were all there.

Nolan had the docks looking great for our weekend visit.

FROM THE FLEET CAPTAIN:

Well it is been over a week since the terrorist attack on the World Trade Center and it is hard to focus on anything else.

This week is the beginning of fall. Our last cruise of the season to Baltimore Md. (Fells Point) is almost here - 10/05/01. To me, as Fleet Captain, this summer went by too fast. I hope everyone had an enjoyable summer.

Our annual Labor Day Cruise to Todd's Lot was a success as usual. The weather could not have been better. Brian Toner hosted a survivor show. What a feast - 3 bushels of crabs compliments of Nolan. We all wore Sailor caps furnished by Erni, she also provided decorations. The Todd's skit on Gilligan's Island was something to see - it brought us back to yesteryear.

To the Todd's thanks again for your hospitality. My term as Fleet Captain is nearing its end and it was my pleasure to serve you.

SUNSHINE REPORT

Betty Todd's double knee replacements went well. She is coming home on September 19. It will still require some time before Betty's knees will be healed but she is on the right road and we all wish her well, literally!

Jen Toner had her surgery, is doing great and is back teaching already.

Atta girl, Jen.
