CRUISING ASSOCIATION

North East, Maryland

DOCKLINE - July 2001

FROM THE COMMODORE:

Well here we are midway thru boating season. The vacation cruise is over, but what a wonderful, fun-filled cruise! Our Fleet Captain, Don Gortowski, planned an excellent cruising schedule and his wife, our Vive Commodore, Vera, planned the social activities. There was such a nice blend of "something to do" along with "time to relax". We had the men cooking breakfast one day, community dinners and breakfasts and cocktail parties, hermit crab races a couple of times, Jack Varnes card game, the burgee spotting contest, as well as the scavenger hunt, which was won by Brian and Jen Toner. For all of you that participated in that hunt, I enjoyed your creativity. By the way, I have the Mob Jack beer and will bring it on the next few cruises. We had twelve boats go on the vacation cruise. If you were not one of them, you missed a really great time. Hopefully you'll plan on joining us all next year.

Don still has several week end cruises planned for the rest of the summer. Judging from what has been, all the up coming events should be filled with fun.

Our next meeting is at noon on Sunday, July 22 at the Miles River Yacht Club. Please plan on attending even if it is by land cruiser. Our June meeting did not have a quorum so there was no meeting. However, this time we have enough boats to fill the quorum requirement, and we have some important business to discuss. We have new proposed members to vote into membership. We have a committee to form to come up with a slate of bridge officers for next year. We also want to finalize committees and plans for TOBCA's famous "Lot" picnic. There's lots to do and a lot of fun to be had. So come join us.

As my Captain Dave would say, "Let's see your face in the place"!

FROM THE VICE COMMODORE:

I just want to thank everyone who went on the vacation cruise, for such a great time. All you men made great Breakfasts, the community dinners were the best, and the ice cream party the Fleet Captain had was perfect, thanks to Bobby & Carol for the freezer. The dinners out were also a hit because of the separate checks, everyone got to have just what they wanted. Coupon Clipper won Jack's card game; Sound Waves won Pat's Scavenger hunt; and Epicurean won the Burgee contest. The Survivor Party was a hit. Frank Rooks from Standing Room Only was the contestant from our group. You will have to ask him for the name of his team. Oh and I must not forget Vera's White Sands. What a place - you just have to go there. We were glad to meet her. Hope to see as many of you as possible at Miles River Yacht Club.

FROM THE FLEET CAPTAIN:

Hi Fellow Boaters.

Well, we have completed our third cruise, and what a time we have had. In spite of a rainy weekend Memorial Day in Chestertown, we managed to have good time, Ralph's Wharf really went out of the way for us. Then Bush River Opening and their masquerade party, another great weekend.

We have just finished our vacation cruise starting with Annapolis. This is always an interesting stop. We had a great time and much to do. Cook out at Harrington Harbor worked out great. Solomon's Island and dinner at Vera,s went over big. Then on to Tilman Island Marina for a well needed rest. Our final stop was Kent Island Yacht Club for Dinner and a Survival Party.

For those of you that were unable join us on any of our cruises, don't miss out on our upcoming schedule. Miles River Yacht Club is next, July 21 and 22. They are having a crab feast on Saturday. Crab Races begin at 2PM, food is 5pm to 7:30pm , DJ is from 7pm to 11:00PM.

PLEASE NOTE

There has been a change in our cruise schedule. August 25 has been changed to August 18 at Bohemia Bay Anchorage. The BBYCA is having a PIG ROAST that night at 5pm. Price is not yet available. They are also having a boat parade in the afternoon. Please let me know as soon as possible if you are planning to attend. Thanks.

SUNSHINE REPORT

TOBCA's heartfelt sympathy goes out to Ron and Judy Robson on the recent loss of her mother.

Update, on Jack Burnley, we saw him at the Kent Island Yacht Club on our vacation cruise. Although he has lost a lot of weight, his color is good and his appetite is back. He seems to be on the mend and we all sincerely hope so.

Betty Todd had micro surgery on her good knee and it didn't do what it was supposed to do, so is now planning on having both knees replaced after boating season. We wish you the best, Betty.
