CRUISING ASSOCIATION |
North East, Maryland
DOCKLINE - April 2001
FROM THE COMMODORE:
Our Treasurer, Jane Wiertel reported that we did well at our Ball and that we had 70 people in attendance and had 22 other clubs represented there. That is a fine showing.
Well "Ball" season is over which means it is spring and time to get the boats ready and into the water. It's the moment we have been waiting for all winter. It is also the beginning of the club "openings" season. Dave and I will be attending as many as we can to help get TOBCA's name across the Bay I a positive way. Anyone who would like to join us is more than welcome. It's a fun experience. Hosting clubs normally give free dockage and electric for the weekend besides planned entertainment. It's a good place to meet other people with an interest in common. If you are interested, please contact us and we will let you know what we are doing.
Our cruising season will be starting shortly and Don Gortowski has put together a good schedule. If you haven't already signed up for anything, check out the schedule and see what you would be interested in doing with the club this year. We always have fun.
This month's meeting will be at the North East VFW at 3:30. We are having a guest speaker, Elliot Mintzer, from Nautical Card. He was the one who came to our meeting about eighteen months ago and introduced us to Nauti-card and gave us some good incentives to join. My opinion is that it will be a worthwhile experience.
We are also having a memorial service for Dale Moffett following our regular meeting. I am requesting officers to be in summer white uniforms. There will be a buffet dinner at 5:00 hosted by Dale's widow, Ann. We need to know how many people will be attending the dinner. Please contact me and let me know if you are coming.
We had said that we would let our members know about the Chesapeake Commodore's Club Ball in January 2002. Attached to this newsletter is the information sheet on that Ball. The reservations are given to CCC members first and then to others in the order that the reservations were received. So if you want to go, reserve now.
FROM THE VICE COMMODORE:
There is nothing new to report at this time. A separate Sunshine Report follows. I'm looking forward to boating with as many members of TOBCA as possible this year.
FROM THE REAR COMMODORE:
Spring is here and it is time to get your boats back in the water. It is also time to think about getting a courtesy inspection from the Coast Guard on your boat.
If you know of anyone who would like to join TOBCA, please make sure they receive an application or let me know their name and address and I will mail them one.
FROM THE FLEET CAPTAIN:
Our cruise schedule is as follows:
I would like some suggestions on a theme for our Annual Picnic at the Wye River. This is an opportunity for everyone to get involved and decorate their boats and themselves. Please let me know what theme you think could be interesting.
SUNSHINE REPORT
Don Heiser underwent quadruple bypass surgery. He is home now and says he feels like he was dropped from a plane. I think that means he is on the mend. Good luck, Don.
We have not heard how Art Young is doing. As soon as we know something, we'll let you know.
SUPPLY OFFICER:
We are currently looking into some new items for our members. We will have sweatshirts (white w/black logo) shortly for members to check out. Beach Towels, Jackets and Tee Shirts are also being looked into. If you have any suggestions on any specific items you would like to see, please let me know.
MEMBERSHIP RENEWALS:
After April 15, if you have not sent in your renewal, you will be dropped from the mailing list. Please send in your check for renewal and your application to Jane Wiertel, 402 Marlowe Garth Road, Red Lion, PA 17356.
TOBCA COOKBOOK:
We are in the process of creating a TOBCA cookbook. We have a fair amount of really good recipes and will see if we can put a draft together within the next month or so. Thank you to everyone who got their recipe to me. Please either e-mail, regular mail, hand in at meeting or any other way any recipes you would like to have published to either of the following:
