DOCKLINE - January 2001
FROM THE COMMODORE:
Happy New Year to all members and their families from the officers and directors of TOBCA.
Now that most of us have snow around us and the boats are all winterized, we know it is really winter. Since it is not boating weather, we do the next best things. WE go to boat shows and go to yacht club balls, and most importantly, we go to monthly TOBCA meetings to stay on top of what is happening with our club and to be with our boating friends.
January's meeting is being changed to Saturday, January 27 because our regular meeting day falls on Super Bowl Sunday. Please mark your calendars for Saturday, January 27 at 3:30 PM at the VFW in North East, MD. There will be a director's meeting at 3:00 to vote on my proposed budget, etc.
Our third annual bus trip to the New York Boat Show is on January 13 and the seats are filling fast. At this writing we still have vacant seats so call to reserve one and come and join us in a fun filled day. Don't miss the bus. It is an 8:00 AM pick up at the Crystal Inn in Maryland and a 9:00 AM pick up in Mt. Laurel, NJ.
Attached to this newsletter is your renewal application for TOBCA. We once again have managed to keep our dues at $30. Please fill it out with all the appropriate information. Our Fleet Captain uses these forms when making reservations for our cruises. As a past fleet captain, I know how important it is to have electrical requirements, length, beam, draft. In order to get the membership directory out on time, we need to get the membership forms returned on time. So please, take a moment now, fill out the form, write the check, and mail it.
Also attached is an advertising flyer. Please solicit ads from your favorite businesses, marina, restaurant, etc. If any member wishes to purchase space you are most welcome to do so. This income from the advertising is one of the ways that most contribute to keeping our dues at $30. So please do your part and bring in those ads.
Our 7th Annual Commodore's Ball is approaching fast. It is March 3 at the Holiday Inn, Chesapeake House, 1007 Beards Hill Road, Aberdeen, MD 21001. The invitations are included with this newsletter, but call now to make your hotel reservations at the reduced rate. The room rate is $79 per night if reserved before February 17 and the rate jumps to $109 a night if reserved after February 17. So reserve now. Hotel phone #410-272-8100. Mention TOBCA Commodore Ball in order to get the reduced rate.
At the ball we are going to have a "silent auction" and a "fantasy auction" as we did last year. It was a lot of fun and a revenue producer for the club. So start thinking of which unwanted articles you'd like to donate and what "fantasy" gifts you'd like to offer for sale (nothing naughty). Jerry and Judi Cook have graciously agreed to run the auctions.
Erni Heiser is putting together 5 baskets of cheer to raffle off at the ball so bring any liquor contributions to the meeting.
Thanks to all of you for your efforts and continued support.
FROM THE VICE COMMODORE:
Hope everyone had a good Thanksgiving, Merry Christmas and Happy, Healthy, Safe New Year. It will be good to see some of you at the boat show in New York in January.
I would like everyone to get together February 10 & 11 to celebrate Valentine's Day. More information will follow.
Don't forget to send your recipes for the cookbook we are trying to put together to either Erni Heiser or Jen Toner.
Our next meeting is Saturday, January 27 at 3:30 PM at the VFW in North East, MD.
FROM THE REAR COMMODORE:
Membership renewal forms are attached to this newsletter. Please take a minute out of your busy day and fill in the information and return them to Jane Wiertel.
We have no new members since the last newsletter. If you know of anyone who would like to join TOBCA, please make sure they receive an application or let me know their name and address and I will mail them one.
FROM THE FLEET CAPTAIN:
Happy New Year everyone. Memorial Day cruise will be to the Chestertown Tea Party and Langford Marina. Rolph's Marina in Chestertown has slips at $1.25 per foot with 30 and 50 amp service. This includes a light breakfast. They also have a bed and breakfast for anyone who desires to come by car and will provide transportation to Chestertown. The email for the bed & breakfast is http.rolphs.bizonthe.net. They have a two-night minimum at $85.00 a night.
Please let me know if you will be joining us on this popular cruise as soon as possible. The slips will fill fast because of the holiday weekend. We will arrive on Friday, 5/25/01, stay Saturday, 5/26/01 and leave on Sunday 5/27/01 to go to Langford Bay Marina and have our meeting at Langford. Please try to join us sometime on this weekend by boat or car, for the day or weekend.
I am including a questionnaire for potential cruises. Please take a minute and fill out the questionnaire and return to me as soon as possible. I am looking forward to your input.
FROM THE IMMEDIATE PAST COMMODORE:
TOBCA's 7th Annual Commodore Ball - As you should be aware, plans are moving forward for our club's 7th annual Commodore's Ball.
Commodore's balls are a tradition, not only for the scores of yacht clubs that dot the Chesapeake Bay, but throughout the world.
They are normally held during the off-cruising months, (October thru March) and give an organization's members, as well as visiting representatives from other clubs an opportunity to pay tribute to the Commodore.
Dress is semiformal, i.e., officers in uniform, men in suit and tie, optional tux, with ladies in cocktail dress or gown.
Over the past 6 years our ball has grown into one of the most popular on the upper bay. This year we are trying a new location, in hopes of improving the event.
This is your ball. Show your support any way you an.
This is the biggest event our club holds throughout the year. Most members look forward to it. Let's see your face in the place. Make your reservations today.
