DOCKLINE - August 2000
FROM THE COMMODORE:
Thanks to all who have attended our on the road meetings. We had 10 boats in St. Michaels and several land cruisers attended our meeting as well as our Saturday dinner.
As you all know we lost 2 of our most discriminating members last month. To honor Dutch and Bill Hales, we will be holding a memorial service at our Sept. meeting on Sunday the 24th. Time TBA. Please come out and show your respect for these fine gentlemen.
This will be last notice on the Labor Day weekend picnic. For the uninitiated, please note this is not a public marina. We have 16 boats scheduled to attend. There will not be enough electric for all to use their accessories. We hope to have enough to run our refrigerators and chargers.
Those wishing to go on the crab boat must be there first thing Saturday morning. The crabs have not been very plentiful this season. What we do not catch we'll have to purchase at $130 a bushel, the cost will be split up amongst those attending, as usual. The same goes for the meat and supplies for the weekend, they will be picked up by the Todds. If this is your first time attending this event, I suggest you contact Candy Varnes and see what side dishes will be needed. You are welcome to come by land or sea, please let us know how many. We want to have enough of everything. This should be the mother of all our picnics. Brian Toner will be DJ'ing for us that weekend.
The $30 for the frostbite cruise is due the club. If you intend on attending that cruise we need to know now. The spaces are about all gone.
Our next meeting will be held at Worton Creek Marina in conjunction with our cruise. There is space there for any late comers. It should be a fun weekend, with a Hawaiian theme. Hope more can join us. Let's see your face at the place.
Sunshine Report
Carol Jean Faulkner is resting comfortably at home after a 5 hour surgery last Weds. Our thoughts and prayers are with her at this time. Nurse Bobby says she's starting to be like her old self already. Good luck Carol!
GREETINGS FROM THE REAR:
We've been having a great summer so far and TOBCA has lots more good cruises coming up. So, if you haven't signed up, now is the time.
Those who went to St. Michael's know what a wonderful marina that was! From all reports I got everyone seemed to have a great time. Thursday night we had our cocktail party with some really neat goodies! One member said "being a good cook" is probably an unwritten rule for TOBCA membership. Friday night we had a community dinner that was "5 star." It was probably 8 or 9 star cause everything was great! The weatherman cooperated and waited until we had the tables cleared and were on various boats, either our own or visiting. Then the skies let loose and wherever you were, that is where you stayed. Eventually people made it back to their own boats and there were off and on rain bursts, but morning dawned clear and we had a wonderful day for bike rides and shopping.
At our monthly meeting, Dave appointed Laurie Totto as Fleet Surgeon and we voted in Leon and Kathy McFalls as new members. Congratulations!
The following cruise was Delaware City and the fort trip. Reports from the people who went said they had fun. Dave and I had to duck out at the last second because of things that needed to be done. We felt bad, because it was the first cruise in three years that we did not attend.
This weekend is the hydro plane races at Bush River and should be a lot of fun. Coming up is a raft-up, always a favorite with the club and then Worton Creek. It is a Hawaiian flavor with prizes for the "best decorated boat" and the "most interesting" dressed captain and first mate (couple's award). Awards to be presented at the ball. Meanwhile, I plan on getting a lot of neat pictures for our "Ball Wall."
Looking forward to seeing you all on the water!

We are working to secure a slate of officers for 2001. Remember that the elections are in October so I need you to contact me as soon as possible if you are interested in running for any office or for a seat on the board of directors.
