CRUISING ASSOCIATION |
North East, Maryland
DOCKLINE - June 2000
FROM THE COMMODORE:
Thus far Pat and I have represented TOBCA at 5 openings this season. Our membership has been quite interested in the openings as well. For those who are not totally sure what the openings are all about, please contact any of the officers for a better understanding.
Please note that during the summer months the meetings are held on the cruise on the 4th Sunday of the month. Our last meeting at Langford Bay Marina was attended better than any road cruise in memory. There were 15 boats and over 30 attendees. Go team!
At the last meeting I announced the forming of a nominating committee. It may seem early, but the summers slip by us before we know it. All officer positions are open to any interested member. Contact chairperson Erni Heiser, Don Gortowski, or Bill or Yo Hales to throw your hat in the ring.
Lastly , I'm proud to announce that our millennium yearbook is ready. Many thanks to the people who supported the idea and stuck with us to make this a reality. Hopefully the administrations to come will see this as a benchmark and continue to do the same in the following years. Please support the sponsors who supported your club.
Next meeting is to be held at Inner Harbor Marina at 12 noon on June 25. Come by land or by sea, but let's see your face at the place!
GREETINGS FROM THE REAR:
TOBCA has been having a good cruising season in spite of the rain. I was surprised to see six boats at Georgetown/Sassafras openings and then positively amazed to have 15 boats for the Chestertown/Lankford Bay Memorial Day weekend!
At Chestertown Marina the rain stopped for our cocktail party and stopped to let us go to dinner on Saturday, but rained most of the rest of the time. It didn't dampen our spirits, but made the dock slippery enough to have Judy Armington do a back flip and break her leg. Let's wish Judy a full and speedy recovery and send word along that it was not the boat's fault!
David and Karen Kent gave us shelter from the rain on Saturday so that we could watch the "tea party" enactment from the back and top of Sea Ducktion and then gave a party onboard on Sunday after our Bar-B-Que - cookout that we had in a barn attached to a seafood place (supplied by Lankford Bay Marina). Thanks, Nolan, for telling us about Lankford Bay! Also a big thanks to the Kents for their hospitality and to DJ Linda for supplying the music for our cookout!
We have a lot of good cruises coming up. However, since I am in charge of the Kids' Cruise /Adult Beach Party at Tolchester on August 26 I turn our attention there. Brian Toner is in charge of the Adult Beach Party and I have volunteered to do the "kid's part." I intend on having gift packs for the kids as I did last year. I also want to have a fishing contest for "the largest fish caught live on a hook." I want to have the water balloon toss contest, and "art contest" and I want a craft "let's do it together" to make a present for Mom or Grandma.
I am looking for ideas, volunteers, and most important I need to know which kids are coming, i.e. boy/girl and age. Please help me make this a happy memory for the kids!
Meanwhile, let's keep cruising and having fun!
FROM THE FLEET CAPTAIN
Thus far our cruises have been well attended. We do need to educate our members in club protocol and cruising etiquette. All the planning that goes into the various cruises involves a good deal of time and effort to put together. It's not always easy to find a marina that can accommodate the number of boats on the day we want to arrive. Therefore it's important that you make a commitment by sending in your deposit in a timely fashion. We want as many of you on the cruises as possible, but you can't expect the marinas or the club to wait for a last minute commitment. These cruises are planned months in advance and deserve your attention. Your officers do not get paid or receive any perks. They work for the joy of everyone having a good time. Please be considerate of what's expected of you from your fellow boater.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
FROM THE EDITOR
If I haven't published your birthday in the Dockline it may be because I don't have it. Somehow, I'm missing a few. If you know the birthdays of any of the following people, please let me know. (I don't need to know the year).
Thanks,
