North East, Maryland
DOCKLINE - February 2000
FROM THE COMMODORE:
I've very happy to report that our bus trip to the NYC boat show was a success. The club made a few new friends, our members had a great time and we made a profit. Couldn't ask for more!
In spite of the extremely cold weather, the January meeting was very well attended. We said our good-byes to PC Dale and wife Ann and sent them off with a memento of our appreciation and friendship. Their company will be much missed.
In only a few short weeks TOBCA will be hosting it's 6th annual Commodores Ball. I'm told that the early response has been great. If you haven't made your reservations as yet, please do ASAP. We have a deadline with the Ramada.
I'd like to thank all the folks who work on this ball each year to make it one of the most popular on the bay.
Brian Toner has been busy putting together our yearbook. Please get your ads to him quickly. Remember this is how we support our club. Please do your share.
Our next meeting is scheduled for Sunday Feb. 27 at 3 PM. Officers will meet at 2 and hopefully finish reshaping the bylaws.
At our March meeting we are expecting a guest speaker from CBYCA, "Chesapeake Bay Yacht Clubs Association". Part of your dues goes to them. Come find out why!
Let me see your face in the place.
GREETINGS FROM THE REAR:
I am trying to put together a collage of photographs of TOBCA's 1999 cruises and events. I want to get it done so that it can be enjoyed by everyone at the Ball. If anyone has any photographs that they can let me have for this purpose please either mail them or let me know that you are bringing them to the February meeting. I've never done this before, but I'll give it my best shot. If anyone would like to volunteer to help or do it instead of me, I'll gratefully take all help offered.
On the Fantasy and Silent Auction Brian Toner and Jerry Cook have gotten very little in the way of response from the membership. You'll recall last month I put in some suggestions for members to act upon and I put in a plea that everyone put on their thinking cap and come up with some ideas of what they could offer in the way of services to be auctioned off. This is a fun fund-raiser and I would hope that people would enter into the spirit of it. Jerry received some nice contributions from Mike Handzo at the last meeting, but that is all. Come on guys and gals! Bring some good stuff to the next meeting to give to Jerry so he can do the paperwork and get it ready for auction the following week at the Ball.
Ernie is putting together the Basket of Cheer and needs contributions of booze. Bring those along to the meeting on February 27 because we need to know what we have so that we will know what the Club has to buy. Candy is working on the hospitality suite and will be calling you to see what dish you would like to bring.
Thanks to all who are contributing in whatever way, from the Rear -
HIGH TIDINGS FROM YOUR FLEET CAPTAIN
The first thing I'd like to point out is that three dates have been changed on the Cruise Schedule since the last Dockline. These should be the last changes.
Thanks to all the people who have signed up for the cruises they are interested in. I would suggest that those of you who haven't sent me any information as to which cruises you are interested in don't procrastinate too long. Let me give you an example. I have 15 slips for members to enjoy the Tall Ships at Inner Harbor Friday, June 23 - Sunday, June 25. There are only three of these slips left at this date.
Please, look over the Cruise Schedule, mark the ones that interest you and get it to me by one of the methods listed below. Remember, indicating an interest is not a commitment carved in stone, but I need something to go on to reserve slips. We can cancel with a couple weeks notice in most cases, but we will probably not pick up extra slips that late.
Thanks and hope to see you at the meeting.
FROM THE MEMBERSHIP SECRETARY
Enclosed please find your membership renewal form for this year. Some folks have already paid their dues for 2000. That will be indicated on your form. Even if you have paid, we still need you to return the from in order to update our information for the directory.
Thanks!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
